JR. KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

(5-6 years)

Spring Hill Academy’s Junior Kindergarten program is specifically designed for children who missed the birthday cut-off date for regular Kindergarten. It provides an additional year of preparation before entering elementary school. During this extended period, children will have the opportunity to enhance their academic and social-emotional skills through our comprehensive curriculum. Our advanced STREAMin³curriculum focuses on academic and classroom skills such as literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, technology, social studies and social skills for communicating with their peers and teachers.

At this age, students in the Junior-K program will read sight words and can phonetically spell most short words with limited assistance. Junior-K students are more independent in their learning and have advanced language skills to read, write, and comprehend reading material. We encourage students to write longer stories, comprised of multiple sentences, accompanied by a drawing that represents the story.

In the math program, students will be able to read and write numerical symbols and can easily recognize visual counters and match them with the corresponding numbers. Students will also begin to add basic numbers, with and without counters, as either word problems or equations.

Junior-K students embrace independent work both individually and in group settings. Students practice interpersonal skills by collaborating with their peers and teachers to create a learning environment that’s comfortable for them.
