PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

(4 years)

In our Pre-Kindergarten program, students will focus on Kindergarten-readiness through the STREAMin³ curriculum which places a significant emphasis on academic learning, while still maintaining the same positive learning environment in the classroom. In the Pre-K program, students will concentrate on phonics using the Hooked on Phonics approach, math skills, and interpersonal skills, which are crucial for effective communication with peers and teachers in a classroom setting.

Our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum focuses on reading and writing skills such as phonics and recognizing both alphabet letters and sounds by teacher-guided lesson plans. Pre-K students will also begin learning sight words and building short words using letter sounds. Additionally, students will have more focused lessons on reading and communicative comprehension – understanding the directions given or books read and being able to respond appropriately to questions or discussions of the book. At this age, we begin practicing their fine-motor skills by tracing or writing letters and correctly writing their names as a daily practice. We encourage independent spelling based on their newfound phonics skills and telling short stories with drawings to accompany the stories.

Pre-K students will also study math skills to support their skills in counting from 1 to 100 verbally, and recognize 1 to 20 with counters or numerical symbols. Students will also practice recognizing written numbers and using counters to accompany the numbers as they count along.

Four-year old’s love to sing and dance and our teachers do too! To promote healthy movement and a way to relax and transition from each lesson, we use music and movement to give the children a chance to enjoy some fun, silly dance moves in between academic lessons. You’ll also notice that our songs have lessons to learn while the children are having fun!

Other lessons that may be included throughout the year are STREAM based activities, learning about science, technology, reading, Engineering, creative arts and Mathematics. Your children will have plenty of art projects to bring home this year and each art project will have helped refine their motor skills (such as properly holding pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, and basic assembly of materials) and gives each student a chance to express themselves in a fun and colorful outlet.
